When you create a wordpress site or blog, it’s important to have pages for information and categories to categorize your posts. Most themes have an option for a navigation menu, the following tutorial will teach you how to add pages and categories to display in your menu throughout your website.
Make sure your pages and categories are already created. Click on Appearance > Menus in your wordpress admin panel.
On the page that opens up, you will see options to create a new menu, click the text that says “Create a new menu”.
Give your menu a name then hit the “Create Menu” button.
On the left hand side you will see different sections that say “Pages”, “Categories” etc. Open up each section, check the boxes next to the page you want to add to your menu then click the “Add To menu” button.
Once your pages and categories have been added to your menu, you can drag, drop and rearrange them to make dropdowns and set up a specific order you would like them to show.
Once your happy with the arrangement of your menu items, look to the bottom and you will see the “Menu Settings” area, depending on which them you are using you will check whichever box you wish to use as your navigation. You can make multiple menus by repeating these steps and assign them to different areas.
Congratulations, you just completed your first navigation menu!
